About the Foundation

The Foundation was established to help you.
Every year, New Mexico incurs millions of dollars in damages and personal injuries due to digging-related accidents. Many of these accidents could have been prevented, with appropriate “call before you dig” and “dig safely” education and awareness programs.

In addition, under New Mexico state law, the burden to educate and promote public awareness and safety rests with all affiliates of the underground utility construction industry. It is a burden that will not go away, and we, as members of this shared industry, will eventually be called upon to give account of our efforts.

The State has an immediate need to reduce damages.
The State needs your help. If we, as an industry, can significantly reduce damages and their costs, the State may become eligible for additional federal funding. The State cannot demonstrate this pressing need without your cooperation.

Public education and awareness efforts are the key to significantly lowering the number of incidents occurring in the state. Consequently, the Foundation was established to provide the education programs that the State – and all of us – desperately need.

The Foundation’s goal is to raise $5 million before 2009.
The Foundation has created an endowment fund that will finance these public awareness and education curriculums. Contributions will be invested and the returns on investments will support the development of the most effective educational tools available.

For every dollar you donate, more than 95% will be dedicated to actual educational campaigns that promote “dig safely” and “call before you dig.”

With your support, we can reduce accidents by 50% in five years.

With your support, we’re confident we can eliminate half of all dig-related accidents. That means you’ll save more resources, more time and, ultimately, more money.
